there are two main types: two-bearing and single-bearing. The main difference between the two is the number of bearings that support the rotor shaft. A single-bearing generator head has a bearing supporting one end of the rotor shaft. The engine supports the other end of the shaft when it is directly connected to the flywheel. There is an industry-standard to identify the different sizes of flywheels and mounting (bell) housings. They are referred to as SAE sizes.
