Hybrid AC Generator with Optional 24/48 Volt Battery Charging
This DC generator gives you two capabilities in one setup. It starts as a compact 120/240-volt AC generator powered by a Hatz 1B30E diesel engine. You can then add an optional 24-volt or 48-volt charging module to turn it into a flexible battery-charging system for off-grid and backup use.
The AC output handles tools, appliances, and small loads. When you install the charger module, the generator also supplies regulated DC charging for your battery bank. This design is different from our dedicated DC generator models, which produce DC power directly. Here, you get AC first, with DC added as needed.
The Hatz 1B30e Engine: Durability Meets Efficiency
The Hatz 1B30e is not just an engine; it’s a commitment to rugged, reliable power. Manufactured by Motorenfabrik Hatz GmbH & Co. KG, this single-cylinder, air-cooled diesel engine is the gold standard for industrial and construction equipment worldwide. It’s perfectly sized for the Aurora generator, providing the maximum required output of 3.5–4 kW with exceptional efficiency.
- Air-Cooled Simplicity: By eliminating the radiator, water pump, and hoses, the air-cooled design vastly reduces the engine’s complexity and maintenance requirements. This makes it ideal for remote or unattended operation.
- Low Operating Costs: Hatz engines are specifically engineered for minimal fuel consumption under partial and full load conditions, significantly lowering your long-term running costs.
- Robust Construction: Built to withstand the toughest conditions, the 1B30e features a cast-iron design and high-quality components, ensuring a long operational life and reliability, whether installed on a boat or at a remote cabin.
- Ready to Start: The integrated electric start system (the ‘e’ designation) provides hassle-free, immediate start-up, even in cold weather.
Mecc Alte Alternator
Mecc Alte Alternator ES16F-130 is a compact 6 kW, 120/240-volt, 2-pole AC alternator designed for small diesel engines such as the Hatz 1B30E. It is a brushless, self-regulated synchronous alternator that provides stable AC power for tools, loads, and battery chargers. This makes it a good match for systems where you want a reliable AC generator first, with the option to feed an external 24-volt or 48-volt battery charger for DC charging.
Built by Mecc Alte in Italy, the ES16F-130 uses high-quality windings and a robust rotor/stator design for long service life in off-grid, mobile, and light industrial applications. Its compact frame, good voltage regulation, and proven reliability make it well suited to our 4 kW diesel generator package and to continuous-duty charging setups.
Optional Intelligent Battery Charging.
You can add an intelligent 24-volt or 48-volt charging module to this generator to turn it into a hybrid power system. The generator still provides standard 120/240-volt AC output, but the optional charger gives you a controlled, high-amperage DC charge path for your battery bank. This setup is ideal for off-grid homes, solar-hybrid systems, telecom, and any application where batteries need clean, predictable charging.
How the Intelligent Charger Works
The module connects to your battery bank and monitors voltage in real time. When battery voltage drops, the charger activates and delivers a regulated, multi-stage charge. This maintains battery health, reduces deep discharges, and avoids the inefficiency of charging batteries directly from AC loads or small plug-in chargers.
- High-output charging suitable for 24-volt or 48-volt battery systems
- Multi-stage charge profile for improved battery life
- Automatically starts charging when battery voltage falls
- Designed for continuous duty alongside small diesel generators
- Stable DC output even when AC load varies
- Compatible with solar and wind systems as backup charging
- Helps prevent brownouts and low-voltage shutoffs
Benefits of Charging Batteries This Way
- Faster recovery during low-sun or low-wind conditions
- Cleaner, more controlled charging than using AC chargers or inverter passthrough
- Reduces generator runtime by delivering higher charging efficiency
- Protects battery lifespan through proper bulk, absorption, and float stages
- Ideal for maintaining large off-grid banks where slow chargers fall short
- Makes the generator part of a larger hybrid system instead of a standalone AC source
