Why Choose a DC Diesel Generator?
While most generators are designed to produce alternating current (AC) power, certain applications benefit significantly from a direct current (DC) power source. DC power offers superior efficiency and control for systems that rely on battery charging, telecommunications equipment, DC-powered motors, LED lighting, and industrial electronics.
Some key reasons to choose a DC generator include:
•Optimized Battery Charging: DC generators provide a more direct and efficient way to charge battery banks without the need for AC-to-DC conversion, reducing energy loss and improving charge quality.
•Improved System Efficiency: By eliminating multiple conversion steps (AC→DC), you reduce heat, power loss, and complexity—critical in off-grid, mobile, or mission-critical applications.
•Precise Voltage and Current Regulation: DC systems allow for finely tuned voltage and current control, which is essential for sensitive equipment or specialized power requirements.
•Redundancy and Scalability: With modular power supplies, DC output can be scaled or configured with redundancy, providing both flexibility and increased reliability.
Our DC diesel generators are purpose-built to meet these demands, offering a dependable power solution backed by the same rugged design and build quality Aurora is known for.
Reliable DC Power from a Proven Diesel Platform
This DC diesel generator is engineered with the same durability and quality as our standard models, but instead of supplying AC power, it delivers a regulated 24–30 VDC output using advanced, high-efficiency power conversion. At its core, we retain our trusted AC alternator—not the typical low-cost rectified AC solution commonly found in traditional DC generators.
Instead of converting AC to DC through a basic internal rectifier, we use the alternator to drive two DPU-3200 power modules. Each DPU-3200 delivers 3.2 kW of stable DC power, offering a total output of 6.4 kW in this configuration. These power supplies can be paralleled for increased capacity or redundancy, depending on application needs.
The DC output is both voltage- and current-regulated, with adjustable settings to match your specific load requirements. This architecture results in higher reliability, improved efficiency, and superior control compared to conventional designs.
Weather Enclosures:
Aurora enclosures, installed at the factory, work with their corresponding generator sets to ensure optimal performance, security, and operator safety while protecting against harsh weather conditions. These enclosures are constructed using galvannealed steel and equipped with stainless steel fasteners for increased resistance to corrosion. Additionally, lift-off doors and access panels provide easy access for service and maintenance.
Construction
Aurora Generators are built tough. All steel frames and fuel tank are all constructed out of heavy gauge steel and power coated for corrosion resistance. Only stainless steel fasteners are used to assemble it.
Powered by Perkins
Perkins engines are suitable for use in challenging conditions and can run for extended periods, making them an excellent choice for producing power. They have an expected lifespan of more than 20,000 hours. As a subsidiary of Caterpillar, a company known and respected worldwide, Perkins offers superior warranties and product support.
Liquid-cooled generator engines such as the one used on this generator offer better temperature regulation, reduce thermal stress, and decrease noise levels. Additionally, this generator is designed for better heat dissipation making it more efficient than air-cooled engines. It can operate full-time without requiring a cooldown period.
Generator Head
Aurora Generators use Mecc Alte brushless and voltage-regulated alternators. They feature overload capability up to 300% for 20 seconds and maintain a voltage regulation of +/- 1%, ensuring stable and consistent power output.
Protection, Monitoring and Control
The 6 kW Perkins Diesel Generator is equipped with a DynaGen TG350 controller. The controller is constructed to meet military specifications and is known for its ruggedness and ability to function under challenging environments.
Lifetime Customer Support
Enjoy free lifetime customer support with every purchase. No matter when you need assistance, Aurora’s dedicated customer support team will be there to help you.
Flexible Warranty
The Aurora 10 kW Yanmar Diesel Generator comes with a 5-year comprehensive factory warranty. Extended warranties are also available.
Low Maintenance
Diesel generators have lower maintenance requirements compared to other types of generators. Specifically, the oil and filter only need to be changed every 500 hours of operation instead of every 100 hours for non-diesel generators. Aurora also carries a wide selection of parts and accessories for your generator.
Cost Effective
A diesel-powered generator can save over $100.00 in fuel per day when used to power a home, compared to natural gas, propane, or gasoline. This is because diesel fuel has a higher energy density than other fuels, meaning less fuel is required to generate the same amount of power. For example, a typical home would use 0.5 gallons of diesel an hour, while it would need 4-6 gallons of propane to generate the same amount of power.
Fuel Tank Options
This generator comes equipped with an internal fuel tank. However, larger external fuel tanks can be purchased as an option for those requiring an extended, uninterrupted operation.
